Aura Metallurgie GmbH
(Helbra, Germany; Aura)
Formed in 1997, Aura is commercializing a proprietary technology developed by German and Dutch entrepreneurs to recover metal salts, including nickel, cobalt and molybdenum, from spent catalysts found in the petroleum and petrochemical industries and other waste materials. Historically, spent catalysts have typically been disposed of in landfills or incinerated. Auras growth strategy combines global expansion into other refinery-heavy regions and the application of the technology to other metal containing industrial waste materials. Key customers for Auras first operation in Helbra, Germany include most European petrochemical refineries for feedstock supply. The Helbra plant started up in February 2002.
