Puralube, Inc.
(Wayne, Pennsylvania; Puralube)
Allied formed Puralube in 1995 to create a series of specialty refineries producing high quality specialty lube oils from used lube oil by utilizing a breakthrough technology developed by UOP LLC (UOP). The UOP technology, known as the HyLube Process, efficiently converts used lubricating oils into high quality base oils. Puralube maintains an exclusive worldwide license (except in selected countries in North Africa and the Middle East) to commercialize the HyLube Process. UOP, a joint venture between Honeywell International Inc. (Morristown, NJ) and Union Carbide Corporation (Danbury, CT), is a leading international supplier and licensor of process technology, catalysts, absorbents, process plants, and technical services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries.
Puralube believes that the HyLube Process offers many advantages when compared to alternative technologies for re-refining used oil and other reprocessing methods, including: lower capital and operating costs; the ability to recover high quality base lubricant oils which can be re-used or sold at a high value; reduction of residual wastes; the ability to exceed current lube oil performance requirements set forth by automotive engine manufacturers; and a more favorable environmental permitting process than is presently available to incinerators of used oil. The high quality base lubricant oils produced from the HyLubeTM Process may be sold to compounders and blenders of finished lubricants usable for numerous applications such as: motor oils, hydraulic oils, automatic transmission fluids, process oils, metal working fluids and industrial oils.
Puralube's first plant is under startup in Zeitz, Germany. In 2002, Puralube acquired the Baufeld Group of companies www.baufeld.de which provided fluid management services in Germany, including used oil collection and processing, chemical handling, water treatment, and specialized remediation services. Major co-investors include the Safeguard International Fund, L.P. and Perseus 2000 LLC, among others.
